“Alleluia! Christ is risen! The
Lord is risen, indeed! Alleluia!”
These
familiar words from Christian liturgy may be all we need to know to
survive the
trials of this world. Our name is Resurrection, and we are a people of the risen
Christ! This is not
some event that happened in the
past for us to read about in story books.
This is real; this is now; Christ is
risen!
What
difference does it make? For people of
faith, it makes all the difference in the world. As violence
increases all around us, we know
that even death has lost its power. As
confusion becomes more and more a tool to divide, we know that Christ
is alive
and uniting His people. As fear becomes
a dominant emotion in our culture, we believe that in Resurrection is
the power
to overcome all fear.
The
risen Christ, Jesus himself, reached out in those days after his
resurrection. He comforted those who had
mourned him. He assured those who had
doubted. He still reaches out to us,
comforting us in sadness and assuring us in doubt. He has
been through it all, and he is risen!
Even death could not silence the truth.
Our
world needs some truth, my friends.
Because Christ is risen, we, too, can rise beyond our fears and speak
the truth of our faith. We can walk the
streets in both city and suburb fearlessly, comforting those who are
sad,
assuring those who doubt that there is any hope for the
future. Yes, this resurrection makes all the
difference in the world. I cannot think
of a better name for our congregation than this, for each and every day
we
proclaim by our very name: “Christ is risen! The Lord is risen,
indeed! Alleluia!” Thanks be
to God!
Blessings,
Pastor
